ISPRS - International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing

The scientific and technical work of the ISPRS (http://www.isprs.org) is accomplished by five Technical Commissions.

INPE has a representative in Working Group 6: Distance Learning - Education and Training Services of Technical Commission V - Education and Outreach. The group´s mission is to improve the use of spatial information in developing countries through distance learning and the dissemination of training best practices.

WG-V/6 Activities: 2017-2018

EO Education Session - Earth Observation Education and Distance Learning
  • During the International Symposium of Remote Sensing of Environment - ISRSE-37, Tswane, South Africa, May 10, 2017.
  • The goal of the session was to bring together experts in remote sensing online training to discuss best practices that could be shared with the broader community of space agencies, universities and other organizations seeking to implement and/or improve the effectiveness of online training. Topics included teaching and communication methods for maximizing the effectiveness of online training, advantages and disadvantages of the various forms of online training, methods in training and learning assessment, and other challenges unique to teaching remote sensing via the web in order to build technical and competency skills among environmental professionals. Speakers discussed success stories as well as pitfalls to avoid when using online methods to disseminate knowledge of remote sensing.
  • The session was co-chaired by Dr. Daniel Matsapola, SANSA, and Dr. Hilcea Ferreira, INPE. Here are the presentations:
Guest Editor of ISPRS Journal Special issue on “Education and Training in Applied Remote Sensing”
NASA/ARSET-ISRO online webinar on High Temporal Resolution Air Quality Observations from Space
Developed two NASA/ARSET & ISRO in-person trainings/tutorials for the November 2018 ISPRS TC V Mid-Term Symposium:
